READY TO REBOUND: It has been 12 years since Ron Hornaday visited victory lane at Phoenix International Raceway in the Truck Series. Hornaday is ready to beat the winless streak and bring home a victory for Kevin Harvick Inc. (KHI). Hornaday has two victories at the one mile tri-oval track, both of which he earned for the late Dale Earnhardt during his 1998 and 1999 seasons with Dale Earnhardt Inc. (DEI). Hornaday has been running at the finish at 15 of the 16 races he has started at Phoenix.
KHI 10-YEAR ANNIVERSARY: Phoenix International Raceway is a part of KHI’s young history as the organization captured its first win at the desert track. KHI co-owner Kevin Harvick brought home the first win for the team at PIR in the Truck Series event in 2002. Harvick narrowly beat series veteran Ted Musgrave for the victory and became only the fifth driver in history to win a race in all three of NASCAR’s national racing series.
PAINTING THE TOWN: The No. 33 Chevrolet Silverado will display the Sherwin-Williams colors as they serve as primary sponsor for the Lucas Oil 150 at Phoenix International Raceway. Sherwin-Williams will also serve as an associate sponsor on the No. 33 for the entire season.
CHASSIS HISTORY: Chassis No. 051 will be utilized this weekend at Phoenix International Speedway. Constructed during the off season, this newly built chassis showed its potential during a testing session at Gresham (Ga.) Motorsports Park in early February.
PREVIOUS RACE RECAP: Ron Hornaday and the No. 33 Steak-umm Chevrolet Silverado started the 2011 season at Daytona (Fla.) International Speedway by qualifying for the NextEra Energy 150 in the third position. After being caught up in the first “Big One” of the night, Hornaday was able to return to the field for the green-white-checkered finish and bring home a 28th-place finish for Steak-umm and KHI.
THOUGHTS FROM THE DRIVER: Ron Hornaday
What are your expectations going into Phoenix?
“It’s been too long since I have visited victory lane in Phoenix. After the team testing at Gresham (Ga.) Motorsports Park in February, it got us anxious for Phoenix. I really enjoy the racing at Phoenix and it’s close to my hometown in California. Lindy (Hornaday’s wife) and I have a lot of family that are able to come to race and we just enjoy being on that side of the country, reminds us a lot of home.
“We are happy to have Sherwin-Williams back with KHI and back on our No. 33 Truck this weekend. Sherwin-Williams has been a great partner to our team and to KHI. We really appreciate them coming back to the truck series as a primary and an associate sponsor for our organization.”
