For the last five years or so former NASCAR Cup Series champion Kevin Harvick has regularly hinted that Stafford Speedway was one of the places on his bucket list to compete at.
He’ll apparently check that box this summer.
Ryan McGee of ESPN reported this morning that Harvick will run SRX Series events this summer at Stafford on July 13 and Berlin (Mich.) Raceway on Aug. 3.
“I’ve watched the SRX Series the last couple of years and it looked like a lot of fun,” Harvick told McGee. “With the way the schedule worked out, it wasn’t very convenient with my schedule, but this year with it being on Thursdays it was easy to coordinate.
“I’ve always wanted to race at Stafford Speedway. I’ve had a great relationship with them over the years. … Berlin Raceway is such a historic short track, and has produced some great racers, so having the opportunity to run there really appealed to me.”
Harvick recently announced that he would retire from full-time competition with the Cup Series following the 2023 season. The Bakersfield, Calif. native was the 2014 Cup Series champion. Over 22 seasons of Cup Series competition Harvick has finished in the the top-five in the series points standings 13 times and in top-10 17 times.
“Harvick was one of the first drivers on my radar,” SRX Series CEO Don Hawk told McGee. “I’ve always had a very healthy respect for Kevin’s driving style, swagger and business acumen. He’s a great get for SRX and I couldn’t be happier to have him.”
