Quotes | Kevin Harvick
“Charlotte is starting to get back to its old characteristics with the asphalt wearing out. That gives us a lot of different options on the track as far as which line we run. I expect that to be the case even more for the Nationwide race Saturday afternoon. The track will get hot and slick, so you’ll see guys running high and low trying to find grip. It’ll be fun.”
Notes | No. 5 Team
LAST TIME OUT: In his most recent Nationwide Series start, Harvick led 202 of 250 laps en route to a dominant victory at Richmond International Raceway. The win marked his first with JR Motorsports and 41st of his Nationwide Series career. Harvick ranks third on the series’ all-time wins list behind Kyle Busch (65) and Mark Martin (49).
AT CHARLOTTE: Harvick owns six top-five and 15 top-10 finishes in 24 Nationwide Series starts at Charlotte Motor Speedway. In the past four Nationwide Series races at the track, Harvick earned finishes of fourth, second, fifth and fourth. The veteran driver owns two wins in the 600-mile NASCAR Sprint Cup Series event at Charlotte (2011 and 2013) and an All-Star Race victory in 2007.
SEARCHING FOR A FIRST: Charlotte Motor Speedway is one of only four tracks Harvick holds 10 or more Nationwide Series starts without a victory. Among his 41 career Nationwide Series victories, none have come at the 1.5-mile quad-oval. In 24 career starts at the track, Harvick’s best finish is second in 2012.
NO. 5 TEAM SCHEDULE: The No. 5 team will not compete in next Saturday’s Nationwide Series event at Dover International Speedway, per its pre-determined part-time schedule. The team will return to action with Dale Earnhardt Jr. in the No. 88 Chevrolet at Michigan International Speedway (June 14).
SISTER TRACK: JR Motorsports cars combined to lead 154 of 200 laps at Charlotte’s sister track, Texas Motor Speedway, on April 4. Harvick’s JRM teammate Chase Elliott captured his first Nationwide Series victory on a night that saw JRM place four cars among the top seven finishers. The Nos. 5, 7 and 9 teams will each bring the chassis used at Texas.
RACE TO WIN SWEEPSTAKES: Now through May 31, race fans can enter to win the ultimate race weekend package in Hunt Brothers Pizza’s ‘Race to Win’ sweepstakes.
