Kevin Harvick No. 2 Truck Series Advance: Michigan International Speedway

08/15/11

HARVICK BEHIND THE WHEEL: Kevin Harvick Inc. (KHI) co-owner Kevin Harvick will be back behind the wheel of the No. 2 TapouT Chevrolet Silverado this Saturday as the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series heads to Michigan International Speedway. The VFW 200 will be Harvick’s fourth Truck Series start this season and his fourth-career start in the series at the two-mile track. The veteran driver has earned one top-five and two top-10 finishes at the Brooklyn, Mich. facility in the Truck Series.

TAPOUT RETURNS: The Authentic Brands Group Company, TapouT, will be back on track with KHI this weekend after their Nationwide Series partnership at Las Vegas Motor Speedway in March and at Daytona International Speedway in July. The August 20 race in Michigan will be a Truck Series debut for TapouT.

SUCCESS IN THE IRISH HILLS: KHI has made a total of 12 starts at Michigan International Speedway over the last seven seasons. With six different drivers, KHI has earned two top-five and seven top-10 finishes while being credited with 23 laps led at the two-mile d-shaped oval.

CHASSIS HISTORY: The No. 2 TapouT crew will run chassis No. 059 at Michigan this weekend. This chassis has been used in four different races this season. Clint Bowyer drove this chassis to a second-place finish at Charlotte Motor Speedway in May and earned KHI its first Truck Series victory of the season at Kansas Speedway in June. Elliott Sadler also ran this chassis during the July race at Kentucky Speedway where he and the No. 2 team earned a sixth-place finish. Most recently, Harvick drove this chassis to a victory at Pocono Raceway from the pole position.

PREVIOUS RACE RECAP: Harvick climbed behind the wheel of the No. 2 Ollie’s Bargain Outlet Chevrolet Silverado for the Truck Series race at Pocono Raceway, which due to rain began on Saturday, August 6 and concluded Sunday August 7. Making his first start in the Truck Series at the track, Harvick started the Good Sam RV Emergency Road Service 125 from the pole position after setting a new track record in qualifying. The driver led the most laps before going on to win the event, his first victory at the 2.5-mile tri-oval. The win is KHI’s 36th victory in the series and ties the organization with Ultra Motorsports for the second-most wins. The win marked KHI’s second consecutive Truck Series victory at the Pennsylvania track.

HARVICK’S THOUGHTS ON MICHIGAN:
What are your thoughts heading into the race at Michigan International Speedway?
“There are a lot of factors that play into a driver’s success at Michigan. The tires wear out a lot and you have a lot of options to move from the bottom to the top of the race track. It’s a fun race track to race on. You have to think ahead regarding fuel mileage and you have to have a good handling truck. When racing at Michigan you really have to have the whole package. The No. 2 KHI team is coming off of a win at Pocono, so we’ll look to carry that momentum into this weekend at Michigan.”
