Budweiser Racing Team Notes of Interest
• Kevin Harvick and the No. 4 Budweiser Chevrolet SS team crossed the finish line second in Thursday night’s first Budweiser Duel race at Daytona International Speedway (DIS), but they were credited with a 24th-place finish after failing NASCAR’s post-race technical inspection process.
• Harvick started from the 12th position and quickly advanced to fourth after drafting in the outside line of the field. He moved around the top three positions for the first 25 laps of the event, but later dropped back to sixth after an unsuccessful drafting attempt with the No. 17 of Ricky Stenhouse.
• Crew chief Rodney Childers called Harvick to pit road under green-flag conditions on lap 36 for a track bar adjustment and fuel, and Harvick settled in the second position after green-flag stops cycled through.
• On the last lap of the event, Harvick attempted to pass Kenseth for the lead, but wasn't able to beat him to the finish line. Kenseth edged Harvick and Kasey Kahne to the checkered flag in a three-wide finish.
• Kenseth’s Budweiser Duel victory earned him a third-place starting position in the Daytona 500.
• When the No. 4 Budweiser Chevrolet SS failed post-race technical inspection, Harvick’s Budweiser Duel finish was disallowed. Kahne, Marcos Ambrose, Dale Earnhardt Jr. and Josh Wise completed the top-five positions. Harvick will start Sunday’s race from the 38th position
Harvick on the Budweiser Duel:
"I can't tell you how bad I want to win a race with these guys early, just to repay them for all the hard work and effort that everybody at SHR has put in.
“I had to just go whenever I thought that run was going to be the biggest. We waited a lot longer. Everybody I guess was waiting for me to go and then we went. The way it all timed out we just went a little too late. I was able to side-draft and not clear him and I knew the side-draft was going to come back. It was just a matter of when I got back to him that it was just too late for me to get back by him.”
