Qualifying Results
• Kevin Harvick and the No. 4 Budweiser Chevrolet SS team laid down a lap time of 46.291 seconds and a speed of 194.422 mph in Sunday afternoon’s Daytona 500 qualifying session at Daytona International Speedway. The effort placed Harvick 23rd-fastest on the time sheet and resulted in a 12th-place starting position in the first Budweiser Duel race at the 2.5-mile superspeedway on Thursday.
• Teams had two practice sessions on Saturday to make single-cars runs in preparation for Sunday’s qualifying session. In the first session the No. 4 team made two mock-qualifying runs, posting a fast lap time of 46.620 seconds and a speed of 193.050 mph, which put Harvick 20th on the speed chart. They made one run in the second practice and Harvick’s lap time clocked in at 46.220 seconds and a speed of 194.721 mph, placing him fourth fastest in the session.
• Austin Dillon scored the pole award for the Daytona 500 with a lap time of 45.914 seconds and a speed of 196.019. Martin Truex Jr., Greg Biffle, Carl Edwards and Ryan Newman completed the top-five qualifiers.
• NSCS teams are scheduled for two practice sessions on Wednesday at 4 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. EST. FOX Sports 1 will provide live coverage of both.
Harvick on his Daytona 500 qualifying effort:
“It was smooth, but the wind is definitely picking up down the backstretch. Definitely hurt us a little bit on the RPMs. All in all we got a decent lap and now it’s time to race. That is our main goal, racing.”
What do you think you will see in the Budweiser Duels:
“I think you will see something somewhat similar to what saw last night in the Unlimited. Probably not quite as aggressive, but I would say as the end of the race rolls around you are going to see probably about the same thing.”
