Kevin Harvick has done some neat things since winning the Sprint Cup championship Nov. 16.
He’s posed with the championship trophy atop the Empire State Building. He read the Top-10 list on the “Late Show with David Letterman.” He’s been on “Jimmy Kimmel Live” and other popular talk shows. And he made all the typical stops and poses at Las Vegas landmarks on Tuesday.
But, to Harvick, nothing compares to visiting his high school in Bakersfield, Calif. Harvick paid a surprise visit to North High in his hometown on Monday to show off the championship trophy and speak to students.
“To go back and take the trophy and put it in front of those kids and make them realize their dreams ... (that) they can achieve them no matter rich, poor or in between was special,” Harvick said Tuesday at the SportsBusiness Journal’s Motorsports Marketing Forum, according to MRN.com’s Dustin Long.
“That to me was the most impactful thing. The TV shows ... and all that stuff is great, but if we can influence those kids, those 960 kids that were sitting in that gymnasium, then we’ve done something and made a difference.’’
Both Harvick and the students enjoyed the surprise visit.
