Cheez-It 355 at Watkins Glen International
Budweiser Racing Team Notes of Interest:
- Kevin Harvick and the No. 4 Budweiser Chevrolet SS team rebounded to score a seventh-place finish in Sunday’s Cheez-It 355 at Watkins Glen International.
- Harvick started the race from the fourth position and as the field completed the first lap he radioed to the team that there was a big problem: two of the ballast weight bags typically utilized by the team to simulate the driver’s weight as they scale the car throughout the course of the race weekend were somehow left in the No. 4 Budweiser Chevrolet and had come out from under Harvick’s seat. The issue forced him to bring the car to pit road on lap 3 so the team could remove the weights and add fuel. Harvick rejoined the field in the 43rd position.
- The caution flag waved for the first time at lap 9. Crew chief Rodney Childers called for Harvick to stay out during the caution period to catch back up to the field and gain track position as many other teams opted to come to pit road for service. The No. 4 Budweiser Chevrolet restarted in the 22nd position at lap 14.
- The team made a scheduled pit stop under green-flag conditions at lap 27 for four tires and fuel. As the field cycled through green-flag stops, Harvick worked his way back into the top 10 and was scored in the seventh position when the caution flag waved again at lap 50. Childers called Harvick to pit road at lap 52 for four tires and fuel and the team restarted 13th.
- The caution flag waved again two laps later for a multi-car wreck that damaged part of the track’s guardrail. The race was red flagged by NASCAR officials for more than an hour as track workers made repairs. When the red flag was lifted, Childers called Harvick back to pit road for a splash of fuel so that the team could make it to the end of the race. He restarted in the seventh position on lap 59 and worked his way up to fifth by lap 66.
- In the final third of the race the caution flag waved three more times and the field was red flagged at lap 86 so that track officials could clean up debris. Harvick lined up fifth for the green-white-checkered restart at lap 88 and lost two spots in the last two laps of the race to finish seventh.
- AJ Allmendinger scored the win at Watkins Glen International. Marcos Ambrose, Kurt Busch, Kyle Larson and Carl Edwards complete the top-five positions.
- Dale Earnhardt Jr. assumed the lead in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series driver point standings following Sunday’s race. Jeff Gordon, Matt Kenseth, Brad Keselowski and Joey Logano round out the top-five spots. Harvick moved up to eighth in the standings. He’s now 26 points out of the top five and 128 back from the leader.
The following is the finishing position of the other SHR teams in Sunday's race:
- Kurt Busch and the No. 41 Haas Automation Chevrolet team finished third.
- Danica Patrick and the No. 10 GoDaddy Chevrolet team finished 21st.
- Regan Smith and the No. 14 Rush Truck Centers/Mobile 1 Chevrolet team finished 37th.
