Budweiser Racing Team Notes of Interest:
- After leading the race eight times for a total of 61 laps, Kevin Harvick and the No. 4 Budweiser Chevrolet SS team scored a 12th-place finish in Sunday’s Hollywood Casino 400 at Kansas Speedway.
- Harvick started the race from the pole position after setting a new track record in Friday’s qualifying session at the 1.5-mile track. He stayed at the front of the field until the No. 1 car, driven by Jamie McMurray, passed the No. 4 car at lap 44.
- Crew chief Rodney Childers called Harvick down pit road three laps later for the team’s first pit stop of the day. Harvick battled a loose-handling car, so Childers called for four tires, fuel and chassis adjustments when the team pitted.
- The No. 4 Budweiser team remained in the top three, despite the loose-handling condition, until Harvick radioed to the team that he thought the right-front tire was flat at lap 214. He brought the car to the attention of the pit crew on the following lap and the team changed four tires and added fuel. Upon inspection, all four tires that were taken off of the car were OK, but at least three other teams reported the same issue during the same point of the race.
- The unscheduled, green-flag pit stop put Harvick one lap down to the leader in the 23rd position. When the caution flag waved at lap 230, Harvick was able to take the wave around after the lead-lap cars pitted and got back on the same lap as the leaders. The caution flag waved again two laps later and the No. 4 team pitted for four tires, fuel and adjustments and restarted in the 16th position at lap 239.
- Harvick was able to gain four positions in the closing laps of the race to score a 12th-place finish.
- Joey Logano scored the win in Sunday’s race. Kyle Larson, Kyle Busch, Martin Truex Jr. and Carl Edwards completed the top-five positions.
- Logano leads the Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup standings following the race at Kansas Speedway. Kyle Busch, Edwards, Ryan Newman and Denny Hamlin round out the top-five spots. Harvick is currently ranked sixth in the standings. He’s 15 points back from the leader and 10 markers ahead of the cut-off point with two races to go before the Eliminator Round.
Harvick on the race at Kansas Speedway:
How would you assess your team’s day: “I thought I had a flat tire and pitted because you see all the trouble that was going on. We missed it on the handling a little bit today. We qualified well and had good track position. That saved us in the beginning of the race and when I thought I had a flat, it just got us behind.”
The following is the finishing position of the other SHR teams in Sunday's race:
- Danica Patrick and the No. 10 Aspen Dental Chevrolet team finished 16th
- Tony Stewart and the No. 14 Rush Truck Centers/Mobil 1 Chevrolet team finished 17th.
- Kurt Busch and the No. 41 Haas Automation Chevrolet team finished 42nd.
