KANSAS CITY RACING: Elliott Sadler and the No. 2 OneMain Financial team will head to Kansas Speedway this weekend for the first NASCAR Nationwide Series event at the Kansas City, Mo., track this season. Sadler has only competed at the track once in the Nationwide Series back in 2005 where he started 18th and was relegated to a 42nd-place finish after an accident on lap five.
EXPERIENCE IN KC: Sadler has also made 10 starts at the 1.5-mile track in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series. He collected one top-five and three top-10 finishes with a best finish of fourth in 2004.
MAKE IT TEN: In the Nationwide Series, KHI has nine starts at Kansas. With fourth-place results, KHI co-owner Kevin Harvick (2010 and 2009) and NASCAR Sprint Cup Series driver Tony Stewart (2006) share the record for the organization’s best finish at the 1.5-mile Kansas City, Kan., facility.
CHASSIS HISTORY: The No. 2 OneMain Financial team will use chassis No. 070 this weekend in Kansas. This is the eighth time this season the No.2 team will compete with this particular chassis. The team has earned four top-five finishes with No. 070 thus far this season with a best finish of third at Darlington Raceway in May and Iowa Speedway in August.
PREVIOUS RACE RECAP: After starting from the pole for the fourth time this season, Sadler and the No. 2 OneMain Financial Chevrolet raced among the top 15 for the majority of the day before an untimely caution put the KHI team one lap down and left the team to finish 14th in the OneMain Financial 200 at Dover International Speedway.
TO THE POINT: Sadler remains in the second position in the Nationwide Series Driver’s Point standings. With five races remaining in the season, the driver sits 22 points out of the lead.
MEET ELLIOTT SADLER: Fans will have the opportunity to meet Sadler at the OneMain Financial Branch at 1154 West 103rd St. in Kansas City, Mo., on Oct. 7. From 4:30-5:30 p.m. Sadler will meet with fans, sign autographs and take photos.
THOUGHTS FROM THE DRIVER: Elliott Sadler
How do you feel heading into this week’s race at Kansas?
“Kansas Speedway is a very slick 1.5-mile race track. It is one of the slickest race tracks that we will compete on all season long. It’s another 1.5-mile track that I am fond of, and it seems to be a strong area for our team. Kansas is another track that we feel like we can go to and be very competitive. Track position is very important there as it is very hard to pass. We race in the middle of the day, which is going to make it nice and slick. I feel good about this weekend, and I know we will go and perform to the best of our ability.”
MOST POPULAR DRIVER: Plenty of time remains to vote for Sadler for the 2011 NASCAR Nationwide Series Most Popular Driver award. Fans can vote for Sadler now through November 17 on www.NASCARNationwideSeries.com.
