2006 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series
2006 was Kevin's most successful season in the Cup Series to date. He won five races, doubling his career wins in just one year alone, and earned his first berth in the Chase for the Nextel Cup Championship. After briefly leading the Nextel Cup point standings after the first Chase race - the first time he has sat atop Cup points - Kevin went on to finish fourth. Not only was that the best points finish of Kevin's Cup Series career thus far, but he finished a mere 73 points out of the top spot. Sponsors GM Goodwrench and Reese's were co-primary sponsors on the No. 29 car.
