Joined Fellow Sprint Cup Stars in Pennzoil Platinum Victory Challenge |
Just like the NHL has the
Hardest Shot contest, the NBA has the Slam-Dunk competition and MLB has its
Home Run Derby, this year NASCAR and Lowe’s (N.C.) Motor Speedway held the
Pennzoil Platinum Victory Challenge.

The Victory Challenge consisted of Kevin Harvick, Clint Bowyer, Kyle Busch,
Greg Biffle and Jimmie Johnson. This star-studded field competed in a timed
competition consisting of a tire burnout, donuts, precision driving and
speed. The winner of this year’s event received $10,000 for the charity of
their choice.
Harvick, who is known for his victory burnouts, was asked prior to the event
what his most memorable burnout had been. “The only one that’s really
impressed me was Jack Sprague’s burnout in 2001 after the Truck Series race
at Richmond. During his victory burnout Jack managed to catch all four tires
on fire. That was probably the coolest one that I’ve seen since he caught all
four tires on fire.”
Once
the timed competition began the fans were on their feet waiting to see what
each of the drivers could do jumped behind the wheel of a Richard Petty
Driving Experience car. These cars each had a passenger seat, which Pennzoil
offered to special guests and local media. Kelli Bartik, a FOX Charlotte
sports reporter, had the opportunity to ride along with Harvick as his
passenger.
Once Kevin was on the clock, he quickly whipped his car around filling the
air full of smoke. After two donuts, the defending All-star race winner
swiftly drove the car passed the start finish-line and into a temporary
victory lane area, which was set up on the frontstretch and surrounded by
orange cones. After stopping his car in victory lane,
Harvick quickly pulled out and continued to please the fans by putting the
nose of the car against the track’s outside safety walls, blowing tire smoke
through the stands before the right-rear tire blew to the joy of the crowd.
Kevin Harvick finished third in the competition with a time of 31.916. The
winning time of 25.046 was set by Greg Biffle early in the competition.
